MSZCZONÓW THERMAL SPRINGS – PROFESSIONALLY EQUIPPED THERMAL COMPLEX BASED ON EUROPEAN STANDARDS IS A TOURIST ATTRACTION OF MAZOVIA FOR PERSONS OF ALL AGES

LOCATION
THE THERMAL COMPLEX IN MSZCZONÓW is comfortably accessible because Mszczonów is located between two largest cities of Poland: Warsaw and Łódź (45 km from Warsaw and 90 km from Łódź). The Thermal Complex is located near the crossing of the Warsaw – Katowice route (No. 8) and the international TIR route (No. 50).

HISTORY
Mszczonów has been using thermal waters from the 1714 meter deep borehole since 2000 for heating and food purposes. The history of Mszczonów thermal water dates back, however, to 1976, when the IG-1 Mszczonów well was drilled to find crude oil. During the tests, the water of 22 to 24 °C (depending on the depth) was found. However, no oil and gas of quantities allowing for exploitation were found. In 1992, the local government decided to have a closer look at the geothermal bore in the city and reconstructed the borehole 20 years after it had been originally made. During the examination of particular geological layers, thermal underground waters were found at the bottom and upper Jurassic level and at the upper and bottom Cretaceous level. Then, the temperature of water was measured (from 25 °C to 75 °C). In 2008, Mszczonów thermal water started being used at recreational facilities, as well. The Complex of Thermal Swimming Pools was officially opened on 28 June 2008.

FACILITY MANAGEMENT

The owner of the Thermal Complex is the Municipality of Mszczonów. The Complex was financed at 70% with municipal funds and at 30% with a grant from the European Regional Development Fund. At present, the Complex is managed by the Sports and Recreation Centre in Mszczonów, which is a budget entity.
